I remember going to see this when I was in the 6th form at school. Richard Briars was brilliant, in fact the entire cast were amazing. I don’t remember much from my school days but I remember this so well.

Charming! Richard Briers was excellent in the refugee scene, though he did tend to gabble later on. A nice, relaxing bit of fun for a change.

I've seen DG on one of his Royal Albert Hall shows in 2016, and it really left a profound mark on me... Both the newer material from Rattle That Lock album and the older Pink Floyd stuff was absolutely mesmerising and so incredibly well played....

Every month Stockbridge Drama Society hold a meeting. Each month a member selects a number of readings on a theme, which are presented to the members. In March 2024 the theme was Clowns, Fools and Jesters. This is the opening scene from Tony Hancock's 'The Blood Donor' by Ray Galton and Alan Simpson. The scene hadn't been rehearsed.

So this is the star from star trek in younger years playing in one of the finest and funniest farces of the 19th century. No wonder they could give her dialogue longer than the one liners usually heard from exterrestrians. Kudos to all the actors here, and thanks for uploading this gem, I love youtube !

Im a wigan lad through & through. I was born the year after in good old 1974 in PoolStock. I now live in the US & went back home just a couple of months ago. I actually watched those two chimneys being remotely detonated & destroyed with my dad when I was a youngun. Its hard to believe growing up those statues were actually a lot older than me. LOL !!!

Nice👍👍❤ I left Wigan in 1970, moved to Australia (Perth) with my family. I was 11 in 1973. Dont remember much, except the park and town centre. I lived at 274 Wallgate, the house has long gone. It was between the Seven Stars pub (where the bridge went over the canal) and the train bridge going over the main road. Really enjoyed watching this, thanks❤👍🇭🇲

Great concert, but the BBC seems to have had the same sloppy attitude to captioning 40 years ago as they do now. The guitar was played by Michael Landau, not "Landan", and the bass was played by Larry Klein not "Klem".

I heard this play before, but in the former version, Emma became a manager at the end.

What a magnificent film ; played by two masterful actors of all time, Burton and Loren. Filmed in the beautiful English countryside, with a very touching romantic music. Such films do not exist anymore and cannot be remade.

Why wasn't this play ever made into a movie?

What a pleasant and nostalgic film. Nice busy town scenes. Look at it now!

1973, the year I was born in (Golborne) near Wigan. Makes me feel old, watching this as everything looks so dated. I remember being in a pram like what those woman in the park had. This guy making films in 1973 was clearly ahead of his time. Who would have thought almost 50 years later 1000s would be watching it? Left home at 18 to go to University and only ever went back to see my (now) late father who passed in 2015. He was originally from Pemberton, then lived in Kitt Green. Haven't been to Wigan for many years, but it's always been a bit of a depressing place, but with many architectural and industrial gems, that the local council seem hell bent on destroying
